are we educated !
i am no feminist ..nor do i support plethora of ngo's fighting for women reservation's everywhere. But that also does not mean i support the old heirarchal structure ..where women were treated horribly and just as a commodity . some days back i was reading another blog and there it was mentioned how in some of the advertisements women are being depicted as dumb ..women who are unable to do anything by themselves..may be ..but luckily i do not know any one of them ..nor would want to know them ...i agree sometimes we do get an upper hand in buses etc , but arent we the one who suffer also the most in the same crowded buses..where people watch u ! ..anyways coming back to the point..has our eductaion actually helped in changing us...or has it just produced some professionals who stil have the same old age mentality ....why is it that when a guy drinks or smokes or goes to the club its considered normal (and when i talk about guys its people who have been in US for 2-3 yrs..are all educated engineers and have work exp around 5-6 yrs ....) but when a girl drinks its called socially un acceptable ! ..why such hypocrasy..why do guyz want a girl who is educated,...and smart and working ..at the same time homely and without any mind of her own..why is that whenever a girl tells a guy that they are going on the wrong route or he is incorrect in his approach the guy doesnt like it......why does society prefer girls which fulfil typical orthodoxical view compared to a smart modern women of today ? ? what is the solution....change the eductaion system ? why is it in US they count women as equal as men ....but y in india not ? dont we say we have our age old tradition ..? but if this is what tradition teaches you isnt it time to change it ..isnt it time for another revolution this time of our minds ? of our upbringing ..? of our society ? there are so many why's but answere is within all of us ....

hey.. Good effort.. yeah... you are right.. our education has taught the girls to be independent, be on their own and to take their decisions but unfortunately failed in Educating the "MEN" to understand that change!!!!!
I concur with your thoughts on men's attitude towards women. However I would definitely agree that education is the only weapon to liberate the thought of equality. Also I seriously disagree your thought and your comparison of US and Indian men. The idea of blond and dumb is a brain child of US men and its predominant in most of the fields in US to current date. Its pretty ironic to me when I compare these two cultures. Indians have always considered women to be very powerful, may be as mythical figures, historic politicians to current day icons in sports, politics and many more fields.
To answer how education can aid in this process. To me things do not happen overnight. When we talk about Indian women being ill treated; I would very safely attribute this to sub-urbs and villages and this in-fact is due to lack of awareness and past practices and beliefs. Thats where education helps open up.
Also sometimes its very interesting to see peoples thoughts on drinking, smoking and stuff like that. In my opinion these things never guage once independence. I have seen many of the girls smoke and drink and men do take these things normal now a days.
Thanks for bringing up this conversation. Its always a debatable topic and only time will make a difference.
